Zaragosa-Coscolluela dominates Mango Tee

/ 12:04 AM February 09, 2015

MANILA, Philippines—Caloy Coscolluela and partner Rupert Zaragosa ruled the low gross title by two points but barely missed posting a rare double victory when they yielded the net plum by a point to Noel Gonzales and Yok Chin Ng in the 31st Mango Tee, the member-guest invitational golf tournament of Alabang Country Club.

Zaragosa mastered the Alabang layout anew with an eight-birdie round for a gross seven-under 43 with a plus 2 handicap, cushioning Coscolluela’s measly 24 as the pair won low gross with a 136 total, two up on Jorge Gallent and Jun Jun Plana who pooled a 70 in the six-day tournament co-presented by Petron and Smart.

Coscolluela, the president of the National Golf Association of the Philippines, holed a bunker shot on the seventh hole for the eagle that kept their pursuers at bay.

He could have also won the net plum with Zaragosa had he not missed a three-foot bogey putt on No. 8.

Zaragosa’s total of 16 birdies for two days is believed to be the most made by any player in Mango Tee history.

Gonzales and Ng seized the low net award with 155 on rounds of 82 and 71.

The two pairs showed up the full-field of 800 players that took part in another successful staging of the Mango Tee.
