MANILA, Philippines—Pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao mustered enough strength to edge Juan Manuel Marquez anew and retain the WBO Welterweight crown via majority decision Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

One judge had it even at 114 while the other judges scored it for Pacquiao 115-113 and 116-112 for another controversial ending.

Pacquiao and Marquez picked up where they left off four years ago as the two engaged in a pulsating duel from start to finish. It was a narrow escape for the Filipino congressman, who took as much punishment as he got over 12 rounds.

The third fight between the two was as close as the previous two, and by the time they finished 12 rounds, the outcome was still in doubt. Pacquiao won some rounds with sheer aggression, while his Mexican opponent won others with brilliant counterpunching, keeping Pacquiao from getting inside.

Marquez, who claims he won the last two meetings, looked determined to back up his case as he set the tone and consistently landed right-hand punches that troubled Pacquiao all throughout the fight.

In stark contrast to their previous encounters, Pacquiao failed to knock down Marquez and this time it was the eight-division champion who would rally.

Pacquiao, who raised his record to 54 wins, 38 of which by knockouts, against three losses with two draws, gained momentum in the latter rounds as he was able to hit Marquez with combinations that seemed to have gotten the judges’ nod.

It was a tentative Pacquiao who showed up in the early rounds with Marquez able to keep him at bay with his effective counter-punching.

Marquez was a heavy underdog coming in but defied the odds once again and pushed Pacquiao to the limit.

In the eighth and ninth rounds, both fighters exchanged flurries in a too-close-to-call moment that could’ve gone either way.

Pacquiao was in his usual relentless form but Marquez didn’t budge and held his guard.

The first match in 2004 saw Marquez rally from three knockdowns in the first round to forge a controversial draw.

In the second meeting, Pacquiao chalked up a narrow split decision in 2008 highlighted by a third-round knockdown of Marquez.

With how the third bout, which was supposed to be tipped as the decisive fight, ended, a fourth meeting between Pacquiao and Marquez is likely to happen.—With Associated Press

“I don’t know what I need to do to change the minds of the judges,” Marquez said after the fight,,, dude you dont win championship belt waiting for the champion to come in so you could counter punch, you want the belt you come end get it, playing safe waiting for a chance to counter dont win championship belts, in a close fight the judges sure will give the fight to an aggressive fighter more so if he’s the champion.

marquez is a good fighter but the way he fight is not a best fighter at all times,, he always backing down he waiting he never do something to change the fight, i’m never see him going forward to make toe to toe for pacquiao. . A TRUE WARRIORS NEVER BACK OFF NO MATTER WHAT HAPPEN, that what pacquioa’s do aggressiveness why pacquiao won this fight. if the rematch happen again and the same thing what marquez doing he never win to pacquiao. MARQUEZ change ur style move forward don’t wait pacquiao, do something new KNOCK HIM OUT TO PROVE THE WORD 100% you won. that’s the only way.. but for now give the filipino pride a support.

Manny, you ought to dispute the doubt in the minds of the people, even us Filipinos. It was not a convincing win that we expected from you since you kept telling that you will knock him down. You looked distracted and it seems the instruction of Roach didn’t sink into your mind. Of course, the Epal Buboy Fernandez was trying to give instruction to you also by sticking his face close to you so that when the camera pans, he will be seen.

Next time, I suggest that Manny just listen only to Roach, because too many cooks spoiled the broth. And it almost spoiled out broth in you. Another fight will be a good idea. But next time, knock him out Manny so that it will be a convincing one. To be fair, Marquez is also a good fighter and he earned the respect of Manny.

By the way, don’t bring along Jinky in the fight —- she’s a JINX. Your lucky charm is Nanay Dionisia whose pure her and simplicity still there despite your success and popularity! Nanay Dionisia prays that you win and will not be hurt, while Jinxky pray that you win so she will have a lot of money. Look at her, she just displays her new disgusting look, modeling for Belo.

Pacquiao lost all our respect as a great boxer cause he needs help to win, he starts his career as a great politician, how shame!!!

So, a fourth fight is in the offing, For what ? Wasn’t this third fight supposed to have been billed as the final and “deciding” fight for both ?
Halimbawang meron ngang ika-apat na sagupaan at talo pa rin si Marquez, does that mean meron na naman na fifth fight……. a sixth…..a seventh…………? What will that prove ? Kailangan ba talagang manalo si Marquez para lang mahinto ang “bad-blood” sa kanilang dalawa ? While I agree with some that Manny did eke out a very tough match, that’s enough. If this fourth did go through and Marquez accidentally wins, will that stop him and his camp from pursuing another fight ? Marquez can call it anyway he wants, but that is now history. He lost and that’s it !!

Sa first round pa lang I saw that there’s no fire in Manny’s eyes. He was so cautious and tentative. He seemed  not to have the same focus he had before. Parang totoo nga yata na nag away sila ni Jinkee the night before the fight and therefore Manny was distracted mentally.

If it is true, kahit may kasalanan si Pacman kay Jinkee, hindi dapat inaway ni Jinkee asawa nya before the fight. She should have held her peace and then after the fight pwede na nyang gyerahin.

Many gamblers who bet either for a knockout or early rounds win by Pacquiao lost.  Look at Governor turned Pacquiao aide Chavit Singson…mukhang malungkot.  Iba siguro ang tinaya sa resulta.  Dapat umalis nang bilang alalay ang gambling lord na iyan.  Pangit na buntot ng buntot kay Pacquiao.
