V-League: Ateneo nails quarterfinals berth with 3rd straight win

MANILA, Philippines—Ateneo overpowered Letran, 25-17, 25-16, 25-17, to earn the first quarterfinals berth in Group A Tuesday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Guest player Rachel Ann Daquis, the former Far Eastern University standout, and Fille Cainglet led the way with 13 points each for the Lady Eagles as Alyssa Valdez, the league’s top scorer coming into the match, took the back seat with eight points.

The win was Ateneo’s third straight in as many stints after turning back University of Santo Tomas and San Sebastian in its first two assignments.

Thai import Patcharee Sangmuang unleashed a game-high 16 points but drew futile support from her teammates being the lone Lady Knight in double-digit scoring.
