MIAMI -- A 14-strong British-Irish rowing crew on Thursday set a new record for rowing across the Atlantic Ocean when they landed in Barbardos 33 days seven hours and 30 minutes after they left the Canary Islands.

During the 4,800-kilometer (3,000-mile) crossing, their boat, La Mondiale, also became the first ocean rowing boat to travel more than 160 kilometers (100 miles) per day for nine consecutive days, according to the Ocean Rowing Society International.

The group said the crew landed in Port St Charles, Barbados at 8.40pm GMT Thursday. They beat the previous record by more than two days that had been set by the same French rowboat in 1992.
