MANILA, Philippines?Manila official, including the police, assured the public on Saturday that adequate security provisions have been set up in places where free live telecasts of Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao's fight with Ghana's Joshua Clottey will be shown on Sunday.
According to Ric de Guzman, Mayor Alfredo Lim's chief of staff, members of the Manila Police District will augment the security marshals that have been tasked to maintain peace and order in the areas designated for the purpose of the free showing of the Pacquiao-Clottey match.
The city government has set up giant screens in several venues throughout Manila to allow residents to watch and cheer Pacquiao.
Residents in District I may watch Pacquiao slugging it out with Clottey at the Tondo Sports Complex; District II residents at the Sentro ng Malikhaing Manileño (formerly Patricia Sports Complex); District III residents at the Rasac Covered Court; District IV, Dapitan Sports Complex; District V, San Andres Sports and Civic Center; and District VI, Sarmiento Covered Court.
Projectors and LCD screens will be used for the no-commercial-break showing for the residents.
The city government has given away tickets in accordance with the number of people that can be accommodated in the sports complexes and covered courts.
Admission, the officials said, will be on a first-come, first-served basis, with the ticket holders given priority.
Once all the ticket-holders are in, marshals have been directed to accommodate those without tickets should seats be still available.
?Holders of tickets to the free showing of the Pacquiao-Clottey fight are advised to go to the site of their choice early, in order to avoid inconvenience and for assured accommodation,? Lim said.
He added that Pacquiao?s fights are shown for free in order to give the city?s poor residents a chance to watch the Filipino boxing icon live as the event unfolds in Texas.
