Folayang, other RP fighters clash with tough foreign foes

Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines?Top-ranked mixed martial arts fighter Eduard Folayang headlines the Filipino cast seeing action in the Colt 45-Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) XVI starting at 7 p.m. Saturday at the A. Venue Events Hall in Makati City.

Folayang, also a decorated wushu player, stakes his welterweight crown against Chung Doo-je, a highly touted Korean striker.

Angelito Manguray, an undefeated fighter from Davao, and Badong Domasian dispute the lightweight crown in the 10-bout event dubbed as the ?Reckoning.?

?Manguray fights very well and considering his age, I?m sure the fans will go for him,? said URCC president and founder Alvin Aguilar of the 42-year-old fighter, a dentist by profession.

Other top draws are the heavyweight bout between Manila-based Ukrainian Igor Subora and Australian Nicholas Mann and the flyweight battle between rising star Angelo Estanol and the returning Richard Lasprilla.

?I want (our telents) to gain more experience before sending them to the United States and compete in the UFC,? said Aguilar, who was joined by Colt 45 brand manager Greg Anonas during a press conference at Yoshinoya at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
