MANILA, Philippines - A forest trail in a 15-kilometer course that has never been opened before to the public awaits runners and bikers in Sunday's 4th Men’s Health All-Terrain race at Sta. Elena in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
Trail race participants will compete in the 5km, 10km, and 15km categories, while those competing in the bike race must complete a maximum of three laps.
The runners and riders will navigate a 15-km course of forest trails with switchbacks, a trail that follows a zigzag course on a steep incline, and slopes at almost every turn to keep runners on their toes.
The Timberland Heights in San Mateo, Rizal hosted the first three MHATR races.
The inaugural run on June 18, 2006 drew some 300 entries. The race is traditionally held on Father’s Day, except in 2007 when it was staged on June 15.
A distinguishing characteristic of trail running, which is fast gaining popularity among runners, is the inaccessibility to vehicles of courses, except at trail heads.
Spectators can catch the action in designated areas. There will be a sponsor’s booth, food concessionaires, massage area, photos shops and a mini-zoo for children.
