MANILA, Philippines—Magnolia’s Jerrick Ahanmisi hard work is starting to show for the Hotshots in Group A of the PBA Governors’ Cup.

At Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Sunday, Ahanmisi flaunted the fruits of his labor while helping Magnolia zoom past Terrafirma, 124-103.

“The efficiency comes from my practice every day, when I’m going to practice early and staying after to get my shots up,” said Ahanmisi after helping the Hotshots improve to a 2-2 card.

“The confidence comes from my coaches and teammates who tell me to keep shooting. Even if I miss, they tell me to focus on the next shot so the confidence comes from my work and my teammates as well.”

Ahanmisi showed his brilliance in shooting with 24 points on top of two steals and two assists.

The Adamson product waxed hot 58.3 percent shooting clip built on four buckets made from the four-point line–the most out of any local in the import-laden conference. He also sank two buckets from three for good measure.

Coach Chito Victolero, though, wasn’t really surprised to see Ahanmisi wax hot from the field.

“It’s all about hard work. Kami pa nga pumipigil diyan minsan (We’re even the ones who stop him sometimes),” said Victolero in jest.

“Early morning, he shoots and after practice, he’ll shoot again so we want him to rest and have energy for the game but we can’t stop him. Whatever he’s doing extra in practice, it just comes out,” added the top coach.

Ahanmisi and the Hotshots look to stay in command of Group A on Wednesday when they face the surging Northport Batang Pier.
