MANILA—Down but not out.
Carlo Lastimosa dropped 30 points including the game-winning lay-in with five seconds left to complete a St. Benilde comeback over Jose Rizal University, 78-77, Wednesday in the 87th NCAA men’s basketball at the Arena in San Juan.
The explosive guard and nephew of PBA legend Jojo Lastimosa shot an efficient eight-of-12 from the field and went 14-of-19 from the charity stripe to help the Blazers climb from a seven-point hole with 2:30 left.
Lastimosa also added four rebounds and four assists.
CSB, which notched back-to-back victories, got overpowered on the boards, 35-51, which resulted to giving up 23 second chance points by JRU.
Both squads, though, shot abysmal from beyond-the-arc with the Blazers knocking down just two of 11 and the Bombers missing 17 of their 20 attempts.
The Bombers drew double-digit scoring from three of their players as John Montemayor’s fired in 12 markers while sharpshooter Raycon Kabigting and Ronnel Carmapil had 11 points each.
St. Benilde upped its mark to 3-4 while JRU absorbed its fourth defeat in six stints.
