MANILA, Philippines – University of the East banked on a key run late to hold off University of Santo Tomas, 85-68, Saturday in the FilOil Flying V Hands Premier Cup at the Arena in San Juan.

The Red Warriors leaned on a 21-4 binge bridging the latter part of the third period and the start of the fourth quarter to stretch a three point lead back to 20, 80-60, with6:28 left on a basket by Jay-ar Sumido.

“I always tell my players not to be contented and complacent kasi knowing UST babalik at babalik yan,” said UE coach Boyzie Zamar.

Ralf Olivarez scored 17 points on a perfect seven-of-seven shooting from the field and three-of-three at the line while Sumido added 16 points for UE, which hiked its record to 4-2.
