TEAM Philippines fared creditably in the 2013 World Sport Stacking Championships held in Orlando, Florida, recently with a total haul of 24 medals and five trophies.
The Filipino stackers were Jericho Nieves, Alonzo Miguel Ramos, Kiarra Luarca, Alexandria Danielle Arceo and Jaden Andre Villena.
Nieves garnered two trophies and three medals, Luarca accounted for three trophies and three medals, Ramos picked up three medals in the 11-12 male division, Arceo three medals in the 11-12 female division and Villena two medals in the 9-10 division of the annual event that lured 256 bets from 16 countries at Embassy Suites Orlando-Lake Buena Vista South.
Completing the lineup of Team Philippines, which was supported by Ban Kee Trading Inc., were Juan Manuel Ramos and Rafael de Tablan.
Delegation head Alberto Coronel, director of World Sport Stacking Association-Philippines, contributed three medals in the 25-34 category and then combined with Renee Ramos, mother of Alonzo Miguel and Juan Manuel, for a medal in the 25 + category of doubles cycle.
Team Philippines also secured medals in the timed 3-6-3 relay (25 +) and 18 and under head to head 3-6-3 relay.
Nieves, 17, an incoming high school senior at Don Bosco Mandaluyong, got his trophies by placing fifth overall in 3-6-3 of the male division and landing second in the cycle competition of the 17-18 division.
The 15-year-old Luarca, a high school graduate of St. Paul’s Makati, emerged third place overall in both the 3-6-3 and cycle events and topped the 15-16 female division 3-6-3 event. She was the lone Filipino to advance to the Stack of Champions.
Team USA, expectedly fielding the biggest delegation, cornered most of the medals and trophies at stake with Team Germany coming in next in the medal horde.
