Letran, Lyceum hack out contrasting wins in NCAA

MANILA, Philippines—Letran slipped past Jose Rizal University in overtime, 69-66, while Lyceum dominated Mapua, 74-59, Saturday in the NCAA season 89 men’s basketball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.

The Knights remained early leaders with a 3-0 card as they leaned on their steady free-throwing shooting in overtime to dispose of the Bombers, who dropped to 1-2.

Raymund Almazan paced Letran with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Jamil Gabawan and Racal chipped in 11 markers each.

The Pirates, meanwhile, drew 22 big points from Dexter Zamora, 15 from Shane Ko and 10 from Wilson Balztar in dominating the Cardinals, who since haven’t followed up their 2 OT victory.

It was Lyceum’s second victory of the season following its stunning upset of defending champions San Beda two weeks ago.
