Aguilar heads CdO Supercross field

FORMER Asian motocross champion Glenn Aguilar heads an expected field of at least 250 riders seeing action in the Kopiko Astig 3-in-One Supercross Series 2013 leg which fires off this weekend in Cagayan de Oro.

The previous record of 199 riders vied two months ago in Tacloban where an ailing Aguilar of KTM Access Plus managed to stay in the lead in both the Pro Open and Pro Lites categories.

The organizing Man & Machine Racing Promotions said the highly technical track, intensity of competition and the safety features of the 35-jump track have lured many of the country’s finest riders.

As of Monday, 150 riders had signed up for the 15 divisions of the races which dangle a total cash prize of P500,000. The races will be telecast at 11 a.m. on Aug. 4 on Studio 23.

Crowds of as many as 40,000 have flocked to the venues of the Kopiko Supercross series, arguably the country’s largest motorcycle competition with 12 legs in 11 locations.

The organizers said the venue, lent by Pueblo de Oro Development Corp., would be ready by the time the official practice gets going this Friday. The races fire off at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
