Shaken Knights try to focus on Chiefs

TRAGEDY-HIT Letran looks to shift its focus back on the hardcourt as it battles dangerous Arellano today in the NCAA basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The unbeaten Knights take the floor at 4 p.m. less than a week since the attack that injured backup guard Franz Dysam and killed his girlfriend, Joanne Sordan.

Dysam and Sordan were on their way to the team dinner after the win over Lyceum Saturday night when two motorcycle riding men fired shots at their car.

Dysam, 24, had to undergo surgery to remove four bullets in his body and is expected to be sidelined for at least a month, according to Letran athletic moderator Fr. Vic Calvo.

Over the past few days, the Knights have undergone sessions to help them cope with the trauma over the incident on Dysam.

“We’ve given them all the necessary spiritual, emotional and psychological support,” Calvo said.

Meanwhile, St. Benilde hopes to finally score a breakthrough against Lyceum in the other game at 6 p.m.

The Blazers have endured five narrow losses, which could doom their postseason hopes early in the tournament.
