ATO Agustin, who was despised by Barangay Ginebra fans in his playing years with San Miguel, will call the shots for the crowd-darling Gin Kings when the PBA Governors’ Cup opens on Aug. 14 at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
Agustin takes over from Alfrancis Chua, who stepped down over differences with management less than a month back but will now serve as the new Ginebra team manager in the latest of a series movements and new appointments involving San Miguel Corp. teams.
Several league and team insiders confirmed this development yesterday. SMC officials refused to return calls at press time.
Allan Caidic, a former assistant to Chua, had been running Ginebra’s practices following Chua’s resignation.
Team manager positions at Petron Blaze and Ginebra were vacated by all-time greats Hector Calma and Samboy Lim who were both kicked upstairs as alternate board members.
