MANILA, Philippines — Coming off a sorry loss in its first game, Alaska bounced back with a 94-79 win over defending champion Rain or Shine in the 2013 PBA Governors’ Cup Wednesday night at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Wendell McKines scored 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Aces, who evened its win-loss record to 1-1 after dropping a close decision to GlobalPort.

“Nice to come back didn’t expect Rain or Shine to be like this,” said Alaska coach Luigi Trillo. “They (Rain or Shine) lost to Petron and I thought we’re in for a battle.”

“Wendell did a good job. He is more of a scorer, he’s bull strong inside. I’m happy we got into the win column. Ngayon there’s a little more fire in our eyes.”

JVee Casio added 21 points, five rebounds and three assists while Cyrus Baguio chipped in with 12 points on two-of-three shooting from long range.

The Elasto Painters import Arizona Reid came away with 22 points but took 23 attempts and missed 15 of them.

Rain or Shine, which suffered its second straight setback after also getting blown out by Petron Blaze by 15 points in its previous stint, got out-rebounded, 47-59.
