IBA, Zambales—Quezon City dominated wrestling and added some gold in weightlifting and karatedo to keep the overall lead yesterday in the Luzon qualifying leg of the 2013 Batang Pinoy Games at Zambales Sports Complex here.
Christian Bulagsac (32kg), Lea Monique Gonzaga (37kg), Abigail Valera (40kg) and Heide Mae Pinon (44kg) starred for the QC wrestlers to hold off rallying Baguio City and stay on top heading into the final day of competitions.
Lifters Herbert Cadenas (62kg) and Eriel Cardano (53kg) also scored for QC along with karateka Alexander Lay, who toppled John Marc Claveria of Pangasinan in the boys’ +63kg kumite.
Overall, Quezon City tallied 36 gold, 20 silver and 25 bronze medals with Baguio a close second with a total gold-silver-bronze collection of 34-38-26.
Baguio showed its strength in arnis courtesy of Norielyn Sagun, who bagged three golds in girls’ anyo individual single weapon, double identical weapon and sword and dagger events while wrestler Rheno Van Gayman also delivered in the boys’ 32kg freestyle.
Pangasinan, last year’s Luzon champion, dropped to third overall (25-19-22).
