Greatly influenced by his father Jovy, Karl started competing in school intramurals at a young age of eight—even before getting formal training in the fundamentals from basketball camps.
Like most kids, Karl signed up to enhance his skills at Milo Best in Cagayan De Oro—but he stood up from the rest, as he brought home awards like Most Improved Player and Best Player (Lay Up) in two consecutive ventures.
With continuous training under his school, St. Columban, sports program, this opened up various opportunities for Karl to join in regional and division meets in other parts of the country wherein his team bagged third place.
The limelight gave Karl—who looks up to NBA superstar Kobe Bryant—the honor to represent Region 9 in the annual Palarong Pambansa held in Tarlac last April, beside other players from selected cities in Mindanao.
Luckily, Karl draws immense support from his parents in fulfilling his dream to become a professional basketball player, with the hopes to don a San Miguel Beermen jersey just like his hot-shooting idol Dondon Hontiveros, who is also a Visayan.
