FILIPINO Davis Cupper Treat Huey and British partner Dominic Inglot ruled the men’s doubles of the Swiss Indoors championships in Basel after outlasting an Austrian pair Sunday.
Huey and Inglot drubbed Julian Knowle and Oliver Marach, 6-3, 3-6, 10-4, in the finals to secure their first title this year and snatch the one championship that slipped from their hands last year.

“Dom and I had a great week,” said Huey in a tweet to the Inquirer. “We got to the finals here last year and won the tournament this year, so I think we like it here in Basel.”

Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina captured the singles title by turning back Roger Federer, 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-4. Del Potro also beat the Swiss star for the title last year.

Huey and Inglot, who won two top-tier ATP tournaments last year before making the quarterfinals of the US Open this year, now lined themselves up as top contenders in the Paris Masters slated next year.

The 28-year-old Huey, who is expected to surpass his career-best world ranking of 24, said he and Inglot—who started as doubles partners in college at University of Virginia—are also aiming for new heights next year.

“We have had a great last couple of months and hopefully it will only get better,” said Huey.

Huey and Inglot, who lost in the finals last year to Canada’s Daniel Nestor and Serbia’s Nenad Zimonjic, earlier ousted France’s Nicolas Ma-hut and Michael Llodra, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2).

They eliminated Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan and Horacio Zeballos of Argentina, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), in the quarterfinals.

Huey and Inglot have now made the final of the elite top 500 ATP three times this year. Marc Anthony Reyes
