MANILA, Philippines — Barako Bull sent sophomore guard Emman Monfort to Ginebra in exchange for third-stringer Rob Labagala in a deal approved by the PBA Commissioner’s office Thursday.
The 16th overall pick in last year’s PBA Draft, the five-foot-six Monfort was sidelined with injuries in his rookie year but made impact for the Energy everytime he was on the floor.
The diminutive guard of Ateneo even notched his career high of 25 points in Barako Bull’s 104-91 win over Ginebra, a team which he will now play for, last August 30.
Labagala, meanwhile, didn’t see much playing time for the Kings recently with LA Tenorio and Josh Urbiztondo usually running the point.
Monfort may reunite with former teammate Greg Slaughter, who is expected to be Ginebra’s number one pick in the 2013 PBA Draft scheduled on Sunday.
The new season of the PBA kicks off on November 17, starting with the All-Filipino Cup.
