‘Darchinyan still the same’

NONITO “Filipino Flash”  Donaire Jr. doesn’t see any significant changes in Vic Darchinyan’s fighting style when they tangle again on Nov. 9 (Nov. 10 in Manila) in Corpus Christi, Texas.

“He (Darchinyan) is going to try to be aggressive and I know that he has a lot of weight on his shoulders going in to this fight because of what has happened in the past to him,” Donaire told Craveonline.com. “We’re not looking past him but Darchinyan’s always going to be Darchinyan.”

Donaire, of course, is referring to the Armenian’s relentless come-forward stance.

That same style, which has left many opponents on the retreat, proved to be Darchinyan’s undoing in their first showdown in 2007, when Donaire knocked out Darchinyan with a one-punch wonder in the fifth round.

“He gets too eager,” said Donaire, who’s no longer bothered by nagging shoulder pains following surgery. “He wants to land his power punches and he gets set up with every trap you lay in front of him.”

The two are making their initial foray at the featherweight division. Roy A. Luarca
