Canlas snares PCA 18-U plum

FOURTH seed Calvin Charles Canlas whipped third pick Argil Lance Canizares, 6-1, 6-3, to seize the boys’ 18-Under title in the Philippine Columbian Association Juniors Tennis Championships at PCA outdoor courts over the weekend.

Sharing the honors with Canlas in the tournament presented by Cebuana Lhuillier were Vince Salas, Cenon Gonzales Jr., Marcus del Rosario and Daniel Estanislao III.

The unseeded Canlas took the boys’ 14-U crown over No. 5 Julian Dayrit, 6-4, 6-2; third seed Gonzales waylaid No. 7 Raphael Teng, 6-0, 6-1 in the boys’ 14-U; top pick Del Rosario won the boys’ 12-U title over second seed Janus Ringia, 6-4, 6-2; and No. 3 Estanislao upset second seed Miguel Luis Vicencio 6-4, 6-2, to claim the 10-U unisex title.
