Lady Red Spikers turn back Lady Chiefs in NCAA volleyball

MANILA, Philippines — San Beda turned back a pesky Arellano University, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16, 25-22, to join early winners in the NCAA season 89 women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday.

Janine Marciano and Frances Molina proved to be unstoppable with their relentless attacking at the net and remarkable floor defense.

Playing in her final season for San Beda, Marciano fired a career-high 28 points, including three service aces, a while Molina contributed 25 hits, including four service aces.

The Lady Red Spikers failed to advance to the Final Four in the last two seasons despite posting consecutive 5-4 records.

Menchie Tubiera led the Lady Chiefs with 13 points, while Danna Henson added 10 hits.
