MANILA, Philippines — Forward Louie Vigil has recommitted himself to University of Santo Tomas after missing the Tigers’ UAAP season 76 men’s basketball campaign.
Vigil, a former NCAA juniors’ MVP, left the Tigers’ lair last season due to scheduling conflicts and largely because of academic deficiencies.
But Vigil, who also suited up for Foundation champion Blackwater in the PBA D-League, said that his entire focus is now on the Tigers.
“It’s really different when you’re playing for your school. I have an obligation to the school that I need to fulfill, and I need to prioritize my studies,” Vigil told INQUIRER.net in Filipino.
Vigil scored 15 for UST in the charity game against Letran on Thursday, which raised at least P180,000 from ticket sales for the victims of typhoon “Yolanda.”
Head coach Pido Jarencio also confirmed Vigil’s return.
“Yes, he said fully committed to UST. Magtitino na daw sya ( He vowed he would change) ,” Jarencio said.
In fact, Vigil played his last game with the Elite in the 71-69 victory over Banco De Oro-NU in the PBA D-League last Tuesday.
