MANILA, Philippines – Boxing idol Manny Pacquiao has no pending tax case with the Court of Tax Appeals, a Court of Tax Appeals official clarified Wednesday.
CTA First Division Clerk of Court Margaret Guzman said what is pending before them is a civil case filed by Pacquiao questioning the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) assessment against him and his wife Jinky of P2.2 billion.
CTA records showed that the petition filed by Pacquiao was filed in August this year.
Guzman said they have yet to hear the case because they are currently conducting a hearing on the motion to lift the warrant of distraint and levy filed by the BIR to collect the P2.2 billion liability.
“There will be a hearing on Dec. 5 where the respondents [BIR] are set to make a presentation of their affidavit,” Guzman said Wednesday.
Pacquiao’s urgent motion was filed October 18. So far, Guzman said they have already conducted two hearings on the motion.
The CTA already denied issuing freeze order on Pacquiao’s assets.
