Tamaraws nip Warriors, gain lead in UAAP football

MANILA, Philippines — A new leader in UAAP season 76 men’s football emerged on Friday as Far Eastern University cut short University of the East’s amazing start with a 1-0 win at the FEU-Diliman field.

The Tamaraws grabbed the top spot with 12 points as they notched their fourth consecutive victory, while handing the Red Warriors their first loss of the season.

Angelou Val Jurao nailed the clincher goal for FEU, eluding a wall of UE defenders to score on a free kick on the 69th minute.

The Tamaraws were rewarded for being the more aggressive side, punishing the Warriors with 21 shots on the goal.

UE has 10 points but dropped to second place on a 3-1-1 win-draw-loss record.

The Warriors played in the second half minus ace striker Fitch Arboleda, who injured his hamstring just five minutes left before the break.

Arboleda, a former national under-19 mainstay, is the league’s leading goal scorer with five and has been largely responsible for UE’s total turnaround this year.
