Rosales shatters De Vega’s record
RISING star Jenyrose Rosales of University of the East shattered the 32-year-old Philippine women’s 400-meter record of former Asian sprint queen Lydia de Vega over the weekend.
The 19-year-old Rosales clocked 54.65 seconds during the heats of the UAAP athletics competition at La Salle-Dasmariñas to better De Vega’s 400m mark of 54.75 set during the 1981 Manila SEA Games.
According to the International Association of Athletics Federations, however, De Vega has logged a 54.2 performance in the 400m in 1984. Rosales’ record has yet to be ratified by the Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association.
Rosales later bagged the gold in the same event with a slower time of 56.03 seconds. Jasmine W. Payo
