MANILA, Philippines — Reigning champion De La Salle continued its dominance after blanking National University, 25-8, 25-22, 25-19, in the UAAP Season 76 women’s volleyball Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Spikers, who improved its league-leading record to 3-0, still haven’t dropped a set this season so far.
Cyd Demecillo scored 13 points, three coming off blocks while four were on service aces, for La Salle, which dealt NU its first loss in three stints.
“We played well especially on our service reception and our serves were very effective. NU wasn’t able to receive well,” said DLSU coach Ramil de Jesus.
Mika Reyes and Abi Maraño added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the four-peat seeking Lady Spikers.
Meanwhile, Far Eastern University beat University of the Philippines, 25-19, 25-18, 25-17, behind Mary Palma’s 15 points, highlighted by three blocks.
The Lady Tams, who also got 14 markers from high-leaping Bernadette Pons, upped their mark to 2-1 while the Lady Maroons fell to 0-3.
Dindin Santiago had 12 points while younger sister Jaja chipped in 10 points for the Lady Bulldogs, who appeared to have figured out the Lady Spikers in the second set after they led, 8-3.
But La Salle quickly regrouped and managed to claw back behind Maraño.
The Lady Spikers wasted little time in asserting their will as they raced to a 16-5 lead in the opening set en route to an easy 1-0 set advantage.
“They (NU) were perhaps intimidated in the first set that’s why the score wasn’t even close,” said de Jesus.
