PH bets among World Pool Masters faves

MANILA—Four Filipinos, three of them with world championships tucked under their belts, will tangle with some of the best in the world in the 2011 PartyPoker.net World Pool Masters at the SM City North Edsa in Quezon City on September 3 to 5.

Dennis Orcollo, Django Bustamante, Efren “Bata” Reyes and Lee Van Corteza, who is coming off a win in the recent Malaysian Golden Break 9-Ball Invitational, will compete with 12 others  will compete for the $20,000 top purse.

The other entries are  Japan’s Yukio Akagariyama, England’s Darren Appleton and Chris Melling, Taiwan’s Chang Jun-Ling, Malta’s Tony Drago, China’s Fu Jianbo, India’s Rah Jundal, Finland’s Mika Immonen, Holland’s Huidji See, Canada’s Jason Klatt and Germany’s Ralf Souquet of Germany.

The event will use the race-to-8 and winners break format.

Juan Manuel Marquez, the WBO/WBA lightweight champion who will take on eight-division world boxing king Manny Pacquiao on November 12 (November 13, Manila time) in Las Vegas, will grace the opening day.

Marquez will be in the country for the start of his and Pacquiao’s World Press Tour.

The World Pool Masters will be aired live by Solar Sports on September 3 and 4 from 12 noon to 10 p.m.

Solar Sports is on Sky Cable channel 70, Destiny  channed 35 and Cablelink channel 31.
