Tony Siddayao award to young golf, wushu stars

MANILA, Philippines – Showing fine form in tough international tournaments, a slew of rising wushu stars and junior golf standouts headline the latest group of athletes who will receive the Tony Siddayao award during the Philippine Sportswriters Association Awards Night this Saturday.

The gold medalists in the 7th Asian Junior Wushu Championships led by Ken Alieson Omengan and the Junior World Golf titlists Pauline Del Rosario and Kristoffer Arevalo will be given the award named after the late sports editor considered the Dean of Filipino sportswriters who passed away in 1996.

The Siddayao Awards are given out to athletes aged 15 and below.

The formal ceremony where Gilas Pilipinas will also be feted as Athlete of the Year will be held at Centennial Hall of the Manila Hotel with Milo as presentor and Air21 as major sponsor.

Omengan struck gold in the Asian junior championships where Johnzenth Gajo, Vanessa Jo Chan, Agatha Chrystenzen Wong, and the eight-man exhibition team also sparkled.

Flashing their potential, Del Rosario and Arevalo ruled the girls’ and boys’ 13-14 age bracket in the Junior Worlds.

Lou Daniella Uy will also be recognized for sparking Team Philippines to the girls’ 15-17 golf team championship with Princess Superal. Also to be recognized are young chess wizard Alekhine Nouri and Mark Reggie “Moymoy” Flores in motocross.

The PSA Awards night 2013, where a total of 123 athletes and entities will be honored, is held in partnership with Smart Sports, Philippine Sports Commission, Sen. Chiz Escudero, Philippine Basketball Association, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, Rain or Shine, Globalport, SM Prime Holdings, ICTSI-Philippine Golf Tour and Accel at 3XVI.

The ceremony hosted by Quinito Henson and Patricia Bermudez Hizon will be aired live by DZSR Sports Radio 918.
