POC chief Peping eyes Asiad hosting
MANILA, Philippines – After bringing together Asia’s top sports leaders in Manila, the Philippine Olympic Committee is now toying with the idea of hosting the Asian Games.
“It should be a national effort,” said POC chief Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. of the Asiad after the 32nd Olympic Council of Asia General Assembly held here recently.
“With 45 countries participating, I don’t think it’s in the hands of the POC or the PSC (Philippine Sports Commission). The government should also campaign for it,” added Cojuangco. “But if we can’t support our own athletes, forget about it,” said Cojuangco.
“I think it’s not smart to host the Asian Games if our athletes will not perform competitively.”
