MANILA, Philippines — University of Santo Tomas cruised past University of the Philippines, 25-23, 25-20, 25-15, anchored by Pam Lastimosa Sunday in the UAAP season 76 women’s volleyball tournament.
Lastimosa sizzled with 18 points including four blocks and two service winners for the Tigresses, who rebounded from a rout from National University last Wednesday.
Fittingly, it was a cross-court hit from UST’s star spiker that sealed the match before the Lady Maroons could even gain steam in the third set.
“Coach [Odgie Mamon] reminded us to be aggressive on blocking and defense, and just enjoy the game,” Lastimosa, niece of Philippine Basketball Association legend Jojo Lastimosa, said.
Jem Guitterez contributed 11 points while Carmela Tunay added nine for UST.
The Tigresses, whose bid to make it to the final four are bleak after a poor first-round showing, improved to a 4-6.
The Lady Maroons, who are long out of contention, skid to 1-9 even as Katherine Bersola had nine points to lead UP in a losing effort.
