MANILA, Philippines – Long jumper Marestella Torres is on the comeback trail after missing the Southeast Asian Games.
The two-time Olympian expressed her intention to suit up for the national team in the 17th Asian Games, according to Philippine Sports Commission chair Richie Garcia, the country’s chef de mission in the Incheon continental meet on Sept. 19 to Oct. 4.
Torres gave birth last month, forcing the 32-year-old to skip the SEA Games in Burma (Myanmar).
Torres, whose SEA Games record of 6.71 meters remained untouched, would have to pass the stringent criteria set by the task force to qualify for the Asiad, Garcia said.
“She (Torres) has a lot of catching up to do. Given the time, I’m sure she will do well,” said Garcia.
