US Ambassador Goldberg wants to see an Ateneo-La Salle game

MANILA, Philippines — There’s perhaps nothing quite like the Ateneo-De La Salle rivalry here.

And even US Ambassador-Designate to the Philippines Philip Goldberg wants to experience it first-hand.

“I do,” Goldberg, a big NBA and Major League Baseball follower, quickly answered on whether he plans on watching a basketball game live.

“I haven’t gone yet. I’ve only been here for a few months but we’ll go out and see the professionals and they tell me I have to go see the college game,” added Goldberg after watching kids play baseball during the culmination of a two-day basketball and baseball clinics conducted by the United States Embassy Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

A self-confessed Boston Celtics and Boston Red Sox fan, Goldberg said he’s been hearing a lot about the two heated rivals since arriving in the country.

“The spirit, like in our college basketball as well, it’s something special to see especially the Ateneo-De La Salle series that everyone says that’s something special so I have to go and see it so I will.”

The Ateneo-La Salle rivalry in the UAAP is considered to be one of the hottest sporting events in the country.
