Filipino tennis star Treat Huey and long time partner Dominic Inglot of Great Britain barged into the quarterfinal of the BNP Paribas Open only to lose to second seeds Alexander Peya of Austria and Bruno Soares of Brazil in Indian Wells Wednesday.
Huey, who made the finals of this elite tournament last year with Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz, and Inglot pulled the rug from under fifth seeds David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco of Spain, 3-6, 6-3, 10-7, to make the last 8 Tuesday.
But their luck ran out as they bowed to Peya and Soares, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (7-3), 10-7, in a tightly contested match that lasted one hour and 46 minutes.
Huey and Inglot, who made the quarterfinals of the last US Open and Australian Open, had more aces, 6-5, and better first serve percentage with 69 against the 63 of Peya and Soares. Marc Anthony Reyes
