MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Air Force turned to its crack pitching to rout La Salle, 10-2, Sunday in the PSC Commissioners’ Cup baseball tournament at Rizal Memorial Baseball Park.
Jonjon Robles and Ernesto Binarao limited the La Salle batters to just two hits to set the tone for the rout which surprised the handful of fans expecting a big fight from the UAAP runner-up and Chairman’s Classic fourth placer.
Robles struck out 10 batters and Binarao fanned two, while the rest of the Airmen peppered the Archers with 12 hits.
Throwbacks, a team made up of former UAAP stars, pulled off a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over National University while Pacific Online stunned Adamson, 6-2.
With the Bulldogs holding a 3-0 lead in the last inning, Throwbacks rallied with four runs, the last coming after a wild pitch from NU hurler Rich Don Caliboso that allowed Irvin Glen Tuason to score from third.
Tuason had earlier singled after Throwbacks loaded the bases, then took third as Gab Baroque smashed a two-run double that tied the count.
Pacific Online, made up of players from the World Series veteran and Asia-Pacific champion Illam (International Little League Association of Manila), scored all its six runs in the sixth inning.
Marco Mallari struck out four and Diego Lozano two to spearhead Pacific Online’s defense while Phons Balagtas drove in two runs in the sixth inning.
The Falcons could only score two runs in the ninth.
