Turkmenistan, Vietnam, Lebanon bag wins in Asian men’s club volley championship

MANILA –Turkmenistan arrested a two-game skid, while Iran and Lebanon pulled off contrasting victories in the 2014 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship.

Turkmenistan triumphed over Sohar Oman,  23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-17 in the Pool C action at the Cuneta Astrodome with Dawut Nuryyev exploding for 23 points.

It was the Turkmens’ first win in the competition while Oman slipped to a 1-1 win-loss record.

Al-Rayyan-Qatar Kondenstat-Zhaikmunay Kazhakstan, 26-24, 25-22, 25-18, also at Cuneta Astrodome to improve to 2-0 also in pool C.

At the Mall of Asia Arena, Iran blanked Vietnam, 25-17, 25-16, 25-15, to stay unscathed in two games pool B and gain a slot in the quarterfinals.

Lebanon, meanwhile, had to go through the wringer against Japan, 25-22, 28-30, 23-25, 25-23, 15-6, to also get its second win and get a ticket to the next round.

Both Vietnam and Japan reeled to 0-2 and dropped out of the running.
