PH pug Hipolito Banal decisions Colombian in Aiba

SOFIA, Bulgaria—Filipino Hipolito Banal Jr. pounded out a unanimous decision victory over Colombian Hernan Alarcon last Saturday to press his bid for a medal finish in the Aiba World Youth Championships at Arena Armeec Sofia here.

The three judges scored it 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 for the diminutive 17-year-old younger brother of professional boxer AJ Banal.

The win set up the young Cebuano against lanky Mert Karaclic of Turkey who enjoys a 5-inch height advantage.
