Pacquiao tax case vs BIR up for resolution
MANILA, Philippines – The Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) has submitted for resolution the case filed by boxing champion Manny Pacquiao against the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
Court records showed that all parties have submitted their evidence and comments as well as their respective memoranda.
Article continues after this advertisementIn his petition, Pacquiao questioned the BIRs assessment. BIR said the boxing champ has about P2.2 billion tax deficiency for 2008 and 2009.
A warrant for distraint and levy was issued by the tax court in 2013.
Under the Tax Code, a warrant of distraint and levy (WDL) is issued to enforce collection of the assessed tax liability of a tax payer.
Article continues after this advertisementHowever, the BIR agreed not to enforce the WDL with the ongoing talks between BIR and Pacquiao.
The boxing champ, according to the BIR, has paid P32 million but the BIR insisted that there was still over P2 billion in liability.
