V-League: Adamson blanks Davao, stays in semis hunt

MANILA, Philippines — Adamson played the way a team fighting for survival should Tuesday.

The Lady Falcons stayed alive for a semifinals spot after a masterful 25-15, 25-23, 25-15 win over provincial team Davao Lady Agilas in the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 First Conference at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

“I just told the players that if we lose we won’t have any chance of making it to the semifinals,” Adamson coach Sherwin Meneses said.

“The players showed their determination to win.”

Shiela Pineda led the way for the Lady Falcons with 14 points while foreign guest player Pacharee Sangmuang had 13 points and eight digs.

Meneses said the team really prepared for whatever the Lady Agilas are going to throw at them.

Adamson took Davao’s best punch in the second set before delivering its own blow in the third set where the Lady Agilas, who were coming off a grueling five-set win, seemed to have nothing left to show.

The Lady Falcons hope to carry their momentum on Thursday when they take on a surging University of Santo Tomas squad, which is already assured of a semis berth and is currently on a five-game winning run.
