FEU Tamaraws notch 4th straight Filoil victory

MANILA, Philippines — Mike Tolomia fired 22 points as Far Eastern University slipped past Lyceum, 78-71, Wednesday for its fourth straight victory in Group B of the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Southwestern University pinned a first loss on Jose Rizal University with a 72-68 upset decision in Group A while St. Benilde nailed its first victory with an 82-72 conquest of San Sebastian in Group C.

Landry Sanjo also buried 22 points to lift the Cebu-based Cobras, who zoomed to a 40-27 halftime advantage before fending off the Bombers’ 23-8 surge in the final quarter.

“It was a statement game for us,” said Cobras coach Yayoy Alcoseba.

“Last week, none of the Cebu teams won a game against the Manila teams. We wanted to uphold Cebuano pride aside from our school’s.” With a report from Xavier Villaluz
