Stags foil General Santos’ Wildcats in Filoil pre-season cup
CJ Perez sizzled with 20 points, which came along with five rebounds, and four assists while four more others contributed at least 10 points for the Stags.
It wasn’t an easy victory for San Sebastian as the Wildcats kept within striking distance all game long with 11 deadlocks and nine lead changes.
“We haven’t seen them play. They gave us a good fight. It was a bit rough but we appreciate winning this game,” said head coach Topex Robinson.
Perez, who is once again expected to be the Stags’ main man, admitted that HTC was a tough match up for them.
“It was hard, but we adjusted. We just leaned on our defense,” he said in Filipino in the post-game presser.
Robinson admitted that his rotations were still a work in progress with seven rookies adjusting to the system and the brand of play in the collegiate division.
“We might be struggling right now but were a ‘big picture thinker.’ We want to expose our rookies to the action here in the pre-season.”
The Stags so far are at 2-2 in group C while the Wildcats are winless at 0-2.
Chris Masglang had a monster showing with 30 points, Meyland Landicho had 18 points, Aldrin Yusop had 13 while Delmar Mahaling had 13 and 18 rebounds for HTC in a losing effort.
