St. Clare pulls away in 2nd half to beat PH Youth team
MANILA, Philippines—St. Clare College banked on a strong third quarter to repulse the Philippine Youth U-18 team 111-99 in Group B action in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan.
Center Redoh Fabien tallied 26 points and eight rebounds in 27 minutes for the Saints, who notched their first win in three games.
“We were having a hard time in the first half and I just told the boys to play hard on defense in the second half,” said St. Clare coach Genino Manansala.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Saints trailed by four, 53-57, at the half before outscoring the young Nationals, who were fresh off their gold medal romp in Seaba, 31-18.
Marte Gil, Colly Bollos and Jason Ibay had 17 points each for St. Clare with Bollos grabbing 10 boards.
The PH Youth squad, which drew 22 points from Andrei Caracut and an all-around game from Thirdy Ravena, fell to 0-3.
