MANILA, Philippines – University of the East cruised past Jose Rizal University, 99-78, in the 2014 Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup Saturday at the Arena in San Juan.

Pedrito Galanza, a player expected to take a significant role for the Red Warriors in the coming UAAP Season 77, scored 17 points while Charles Mammie collected 15 points, six rebounds and three blocks in just 17 minutes off the bench.

“Filoil is not that important to us, the UAAP is what’s important,” said UE head coach Derrick Pumaren.

“But I don’t want my players to get accustomed to losing so we don’t want to take any team for granted,” Pumaren added after his team won its first game in three stints.
