Daquis eyes another title run with Lady Tamaraws
MANILA, Philippines — Years after her last UAAP game, Rachel Anne Daquis finds herself back in a familiar place, wearing a familiar jersey.
After numerous stints with the national team and other club squads like Philippine Army, Daquis returned to FEU as a guest player for the Lady Tamaraws in the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 First Conference.
“I’m happy to serve and play for FEU again because the school really molded me as a player,” Daquis, a part-time model, said. “That’s why I always give my full effort every game.”
Article continues after this advertisementHer return has certainly boosted the young Lady Tams, who have tabbed their first finals stint in tournament history.
Daquis fired 26 points as FEU dismissed Adamson University in the semifinals.
“FEU has a very young team right now, so we veterans hope to provide the experience that will make the team tougher on the court,” said the former two-time UAAP best server said.
Article continues after this advertisementFEU certainly has fond memories with Daquis in the UAAP. The statuesque spiker helped FEU win its last UAAP championship in 2008. And now she hopes to help the Lady Tams notch yet another volleyball milestone.
The Lady Tams’ previous best finish in the V-League was third in the second conference of Season 6.
Despite her other commitments, she has kept herself in tip-top shape.
“It’s a matter of discipline,” she said.“I really take care of myself. I don’t have any vices and I always make sure to get enough sleep.”
If all goes according to plan, Daquis is ready to deliver another title to FEU.
