MANILA, Philippines — Unbeaten San Beda handed Mapua an 80-68 beating that hardly impressed Lions coach Boyet Fernandez in Group B action Saturday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.

Ola Adeogun posted 23 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks to lead the Lions to their fifth straight victory that put them on top with idle Far Eastern University at 5-0.

“Five-zero is nothing if we don’t make it to where we want to be,” said Fernandez. “We committed a lot of turnovers today and I told them I hope they learned their lesson in this game. We have to take care of the basketball.”

“I’m happy with the way we played,” said Pumaren after the Warriors halted a two-game slide.

“Although this is still not the UAAP, we must not get used to losing.”

Although out of contention with a 1-5 card, the Wildcats of General Santos City said they headed into the game motivated to pick up a win over the UAAP’s whipping boys.

“We were joking that UP was our target, since we know that they’re winless [in the UAAP],” said Wildcats coach Pol Torrijos. “We’re hoping we might get at least one win against them, and we did.” With reports from Ralph Joshua Hernandez and Michael Carlo Rodolfo, Contributors
