Freego: Mapua shocks Ateneo
MANILA,MPhilippines — Mapua continued its giant-killing run by stunning Ateneo, 74-65, in a showdown between undefeated teams Tuesday even as reigning UAAP titlist National U clinched a quarterfinal berth in the Philippine Chinese Amateur Basketball League 7th Freego Cup at Philippine Buddhacare Academy gym.
Daniel Aguirre scored nine of his team-high 17 points in the third quarter, where the Red Robins took a commanding 54-40 win heading into the final 10 minutes.
The Red Robins notch their fifth straight win in as many outings in Group B. The Eaglets slipped to 4-1.
Drawing another stellar performance from Mark Dyke, the Bullpups outlasted the Far Eastern U Baby Tamaraws, 77-71, Thursday to join Group A leader Chiang Kai Shek College in the next round with a 4-1 mark.
Only the top four teams in each group of seven teams will advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament also sponsored by Smart Telecom, Fresh Gear, Jumbo Plastic, Colt Commercial, K Tech Sports, Insular Square of Cebu and Cebu Pioneer Auto Supply.
