Alido, Magcalayo set pace in rain-hit ICSTI Interschool golf

MANILA, Philippines—Ira Alido of Elizabeth Seton School and Jona Angela Magcalayo of La Salle Canlubang showed the way in their respective divisions after the first two completed legs of the rain-interrupted ICTSI Interschool golf tournament in various venues.

Alido posted 50 points at Royale Tagaytay then chalked up 40 at the Riviera executive course for a two-leg total of 90 and a 13-point lead over Jolo Magcalayo of La Salle Canlubang in the individual category of Midgets 2 division.

Jona Magcalayo, meanwhile, scored 31 at Royale Tagaytay and 29 at Riviera for a total of 60 and a bigger 17-point spread in Girls 2. Sunshine Burrberry Zhang of OB Montessori made 15 and 28 to put herself in second spot with 43 points.

The regular Interschool events were severely affected by the bad weather as the Royal Northwoods leg last August 21 was cancelled due to Typhoon Mina and the August 28 tournament at the same venue also cancelled due to lightning and heavy rain. At the time of the suspension, more than half of the field had not yet completed the round.

The organizing Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines is hoping for better weather conditions next tournament scheduled at Capitol Hills Golf & Country Club Sunday and 18. The final leg will be played on October 2.

To receive trophies are the top three finishers per division as well as the Most Improved Player and Most Promising Player.
