MANILA, Philippines — Down to his last three shots, Daniel “Danby” Henares didn’t believe he could achieve a record.

But Henares accomplished the feat, firing a perfect score on the last card to shatter the Philippine mark and equal the world record during the Philippine National Shooting Association bench rest shooting qualifying meet recently at the Marine Range in Taguig City.

He compiled 747 points, just three points shy of the perfect score of 750 in the 50-meter rim fire light varmint class to pocket the gold medal and eclipse the national record of Auksie Estrada (746) set October last year at the Philippine Open.

“I had three shots to go and thought it was impossible, but I cleaned the targets,” said Henares, who used his reliable German Anschutz rifle for the record-breaker.

The event is the first in a series of qualifying matches for the 2015 World Rim Fire Airgun Benchrest Federation (WRABF) World Championship set in Brisbane, Australia.

It is also as one of the qualifiers for the national team. Henares also matched Hall of Famer Carl Boswell’s world mark of 747 points set during the WRABF last year in the Czech Republic.
