Grandmaster Wesley So trounced Canadian Fide Master Dale Haessel in the ninth and final round Sunday night, but settled for second place behind Ukrainian Grandmaster Vassily Ivanchuk in the 9th Edmonton Chess Festival in Alberta, Canada.

Ivanchuk streaked to his third straight win at the expense of American GM Samuel Shankland and finished with 8.0 points, half a point ahead of So, who got stalled by back-to-back draws in the 7th and 8th rounds.
